Therapy Groups

Often people feel alone when facing challenges in life and it may seem scary or embarassing at first to think about sharing with others.  However therapy groups are a valuable tool as we learn that we are not alone in feeling or thinking the way that we do as we connect with other people that have similar experiences. We get to build healthy relationships and also learn new skills,  Many people participate in groups during the same period that they are in individual treatment or sometimes after a period of  individual treatment.

What happens at groups?

Focused (or structured) treatment groups cover specific topics with the goal of developing skills to better manage conditions such as/but not limited to depression or anxiety, addictions, anger and emotions, or bipolar disorder.

Support Groups (or unstructured) groups cover specific topics or situations and have no set agenda but allow group members to bring up anything they want related to managing relationships or symptoms of having conditions such as/but not limited to anxiety, depression, addictions, or situations such as currenty going through/living after a divorce, surviving war or assault, or grief after loss of a loved one.

Who can attend groups?

Any person with a specific condition or specific set of experiences may attend a therapy group however an individual prescreening appoinment is required before attending a group.

How long are groups?

Ongoing groups have no clear end or beginning.  Group members are encouraged to attend regularly but may attend whenever they want as missing a group is inconsequential because each group is separate and unconnected

Brief Groups have a clear beginning date and a clear end date.  These groups are often sequential and members are encouraged not to miss group as vital information is missed
