FAQs

I’ve never talked to anyone. I’m used to handling things on my own. Aren’t people who go to therapy weak?

People who go to therapy are strong as they know their limitations and have the courage to for help.  Everyone needs help now and then and I’ll help you to explore and identify your strengths and how to build on them to reduce the impact of the problems you are facing.

What’s the difference between talking to you or my best friend or family?

Friends and family care about you but lack the training ,experience, and objectivity to know about common conditions and help you in an unbiased way/ . A mental health professional can help you approach your situation in a new way  This starts with listening to you without judgment or expectations, help you listen to yourself, and see yourself accurately.  Therapy is completely confidential so you won’t have to worry about others “knowing my business.” Lastly, if your situation provokes a great deal of negative emotion, and you’ve been confiding in a friend or family member, there is the risk that once you are feeling better you could start avoiding that person so you aren’t reminded of this difficult time in your life.

Why shouldn’t I just take medication?

I do not prescribe medication however will work with your doctor or psychiatrist to figure out if medication can be helpful for you.  Some people can benefit from medication to provide relief from severe symptoms however many conditions are highly responsive to behavioral therapy.

How does it work? What do I have to do in sessions?

Because each person has different situations and goals, it will be different depending on the individual. I tailor my therapeutic approach to your specific needs and we will discuss these at the onset..

How long will it take?

Many people experience results and positive change soon after starting therapy but unfortunately it's impossible to determine exactly as everyone’s circumstances are unique to them. The length of time in therapy varies depending on your desire for change and your commitment to attending appoitments and doing the work.

I want to get the most out of therapy. What can I do to help?

I am so glad you are dedicated to getting the most out of your sessions. Your active participation and dedication will be crucial to your success.
